Inmate Dies In Custody
May 25, 2022 – A Harris County Jail inmate died on Tuesday of an apparent suicide.
Robert Fore Jr., 40, was found unconscious in his single cell at 8:06 pm, after apparently hanging himself with a piece of cloth affixed to a mirror in his cell.
Detention Officers were performing a required security observation and saw him slumped over. They immediately began life-saving efforts with CPR, and he was taken to the 701 N San Jacinto clinic where medical personnel took over.
He was transferred from the 701 Jail facility to St. Joseph’s Hospital by a Houston Fire Department ambulance, and was pronounced deceased by doctors at 8:57 pm.
The apparent suicide is being investigated by the Texas Rangers in compliance with state law that requires all jail deaths to be investigated by an outside law enforcement agency.
The Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Division is also investigating to determine whether all applicable policies and procedures were followed, which is standard following the death of an inmate. In addition, the death has been reported to the Texas Commission on Jail Standards.
Fore was booked into the Harris County Jail on May 20, 2022, by Sheriff’s deputies for open warrants for burglary of a habitation, evading arrest and violation of a protective order.
