Police Seek the Public's Help in Identifying Auto Theft Suspect
Newark Public Safety Director Brian A. O’Hara requests the public’s help in identifying the below-pictured male suspect in connection with an auto theft that occurred in the 900 block of Frelinghuysen Avenue, on Saturday, May 14, 2022.
At approximately 8:10 a.m., a victim, who was repairing his vehicle, left the keys in the ignition and stepped away momentarily. When the victim returned, the vehicle, a black 2020 Honda Civic, was gone. Detectives investigating this incident reviewed surveillance footage of the below individual entering the vehicle, backing into a building and causing the front bumper to fall off, before fleeing inside the vehicle, heading north on Frelinghuysen Avenue.
The suspect is described as a Black male with a beard and bald head. He was wearing a black leather jacket along with a black and white, striped polo shirt, dark-colored pants and dark-colored shoes. He also was carrying a black bookbag.
Director O’Hara urges anyone with information on the identity of this suspect to call the Division's 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
