Crime Blotter for the Week of May 15 - May 21, 2022

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of May 15, 2022 - May 21, 2022.        
 
May 15, 2022

  • Robbery:
1318 Duarte Road (Cowboy Mex).  On 05/15/22 at 10:10 pm suspect unknown, a male Hispanic adult wearing a dark hoodie and blue mask entered the location and had his hand inside his shirt simulating he had a weapon. The suspect ordered everyone to the back of the location and began to take money and jewelry from them. The suspect fled the location in an unknown direction.  The manager of the location fearing for her safety and that of her customers, followed the suspect outside and fired off 2 rounds from her handgun to scare the suspect into not returning. Loss was approximately $1,300. Possible surveillance video.
  • Petty Theft:
1220 Huntington Drive (Monrovia Post Acute).  On 05/15/22 between 2:00 pm and 11:00 pm suspect(s) unknown stole the victim’s electronic “Hiboy” scooter he had locked in the rear storage area of the location. Loss was approximately $700.
  • Grand Theft:
1470 Mountain Avenue (Best Buy).  On 05/15/22 at 4:36 pm a male suspect wearing a black baseball cap with a white logo on the front, a gray jacket, black shirt, gray pants, and a neck gaiter covering his face entered the location and walked directly to the “Apple” section of the store.  The suspect is observed placing several “Apple” products under his jacket and walking past all mand registers and outside the location.  The suspect enters a gray Honda Civic License plate 6HCD183 and out of view. Loss was approximately $2,600.  Surveillance video available.
 
May 16, 2022
  • Grand Theft Auto:
900 Block of Oak Avenue. Between 05/15/22 at 5:00 pm and 05/16/22 5:00 am suspect(s) unknown stole the victim’s gray 1998 Honda CRV. No surveillance video available. Vehicle recovered by San Dimas Sheriff Station.
 
May 17, 2022
  • Aggravated Assault (Domestic Violence):
1600 Block of Duncannon Avenue.  On 05/17/22 at 8:30 am the victim answered her door not knowing it was her ex-boyfriend.  The suspect immediately pushed his way in and put her in a choke hold.  The victim stated she felt herself losing consciousness when the suspect suddenly let go.  The suspect took her cell phone and the car keys to their joint vehicle that she had possession of. The suspect left the location in the vehicle. No surveillance video.
  • Burglary (residential):
2500 Block of Huntington Drive.  Between 05/16/22 6:00 pm and 05/17/22 8:00 am suspect(s) unknown entered the locations garage by an unlocked rear door. Suspect(s) ransacked the garage and stole miscellaneous tools.  Loss was approximately $2,600.  No surveillance video. 
 
May 18, 2022
  • Robbery:
1600 Mountain Avenue (Walmart).  On 05/18/22 at 10:10 pm suspect unknown a female Hispanic adult in her 50’s, wearing an orange bandanna around her head and all gold teeth approached the victim in the parking lot of the location.   The suspect offered the victim several yellow metal rings, and while he was distracted, she began to remove his authentic gold rings.  The suspect forcibly removed one of the rings which was tightly fit on the victim’s finger, alerting him to what she was doing.  The suspect distracted the victim again, and placed several items into a sock, and handed them to the victim.  It wasn’t till after the suspect drove away in a silver SUV that the victim realized the suspect had stolen his rings and left him with imitation jewelry.  Possible surveillance video.
  • Grand Theft:
1470 Mountain Avenue (Best Buy). On 05/18/22 at 2:21 pm a male black suspect 6’ 01”, 250 lbs., shaved head, black beard, wearing a blue shirt and dark pants entered the location and walked to the portable audio isle of the location.  The suspect placed a stereo and a surveillance camera system into a shopping cart and entered the locations restroom with the merchandise.  When the suspect exits the restroom, the merchandise is now inside of a large plastic bag.  The suspect walks past all maned registers with the stolen items in the bag and is observed entering a newer model Chevrolet Suburban.  Loss was approximately $1,000.  Video surveillance available.

May 20, 2022
  • Petty Theft:
1470 Mountain Avenue (Best Buy). On 05/20/22 at 2:38 pm a male Hispanic suspect 6’ 00”, 170 lbs. in his 20’s, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and tan pants, entered the location and walked to the portable audio isle of the location.  The suspect placed several wireless headphones into the front of his waist band underneath his hooded sweatshirt.  The suspect walks past all maned registers with the stolen items.  Loss was approximately $120. Video surveillance available.
 
May 21, 2022
  • Petty Theft:
1600 Mountain Avenue (Walmart). On 05/21/22 at 6:23 pm suspect unknown a male Hispanic adult wearing a red tank top and black pants was observed on video surveillance entering the warehouse area of the location. The suspect selected a phone and an assembled bicycle and exited the location through an emergency door.  Loss was approximately $400 and approximately.
 
CRIME PREVENTION TIPS
  1. Target Hardening- Making your property harder for an offender to access
    • Upgrading the locks on your doors, windows, sheds, and outbuildings
    • Using secure passwords to prevent criminals from hacking your online accounts
  2. Target Removal- Ensuring that potential crimes of opportunity are out of view
    • Not leaving items in view through your windows- i.e. laptops, phones, keys, bags
    • Putting your vehicle in the garage if you have one and not leaving valuables on display
    • Being cautious about what you post online as it may be used to identify or locate you offline
  3. Reducing the Means- Removing items that may help commit an offense
    • Don’t leave items lying around that could be used to force entry into your vehicle or house
    • Not leaving tools and ladders in plain view
    • Trim back shrubbery hiding doors or windows
  4. Reducing the Payoff- Reducing the profit the criminal can make from the offense
    • Marking your property in such a way that others will not want to buy it from the thief
    • Inscribing your initials on property in several locations
    • Never buy property you believe or suspect to be stolen
