At approximately 5:00pm, Meridian officers attempted a traffic stop on a 2010 Gray Infinity at Main Street and Broadway Avenue at the request of Idaho Department of Corrections. Officers were attempting to make contact with thirty-eight (38) year old parole absconder Joe NAVARRO of Nampa; a passenger in the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle fled West on Broadway Avenue before attempting to flee North on 2nd Street, stopping at a dead end on 2nd Street near Pine Avenue.
When the vehicle reached the end of the road, the driver and two of the three passengers fled from the vehicle. Twenty-three (23) year-old Elma ARMENTA of Boise was taken into custody without incident. Officers quickly established a perimeter and located NAVARRO, in a field near the 1000 block of West 4th Street.
The driver, twenty-six (26) year-old Keith HUGHEY of Nampa, was located by a K9 in a shed near the 900 block of West 4th Street, after a yard to yard search of the area was completed.
Meridian Police Department is still attempting to positively identify and locate the third passenger.
ARMENTA was arrested for an outstanding warrant for Failure to Appear and transported to the Ada County Jail.
NAVARRO was arrested for an Agent Warrant from Probation and Parole and one (1) count misdemeanor Resist and Obstruct, one (1) count misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and was transported to the Ada County Jail.
HUGHEY was transported to the Ada County Jail for one (1) count felony Eluding, one (1) count felony Possession of a Controlled Substance, and one (1) count misdemeanor Resist and Obstruct.
The Meridian Police Department would like to thank residents in the surrounding area for their cooperation and patience during this tense situation. Meridian Police would also like to thank the Idaho Department of Corrections and Idaho State Police for their assistance with these arrests.
