INCIDENT: Officer Involved Shooting.

Ontario, CA – The Ontario Police Department was involved in a vehicle pursuit which resulted in an officer involved shooting in the unincorporated area of Pomona.

On May 27, 2022, at 7:37 PM, an Ontario Police Officer attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Mission Boulevard and Magnolia Avenue in Ontario. The driver failed to stop and led officers on a pursuit through the cities of Montclair and Pomona. The suspect vehicle crashed into an uninvolved motorist in the area of Ninth Street and Kadota Avenue (an unincorporated area of Pomona).

Moments after the collision, the suspect driver fled from his vehicle, armed with a firearm. An Ontario Police Department K-9 was deployed and attempted apprehension. As officers approached the suspect an officer involved shooting occurred. Officers on scene performed life saving measures until the Montclair Fire Department arrived. The suspect driver was later pronounced deceased. He has been identified as Miguel Angel Rodriguez, 39 years old, and a resident of Pomona.

A handgun was recovered at the scene.

Due to the location of the incident, the shooting investigation is being conducted by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

A passenger from the suspect vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. The driver from the secondary vehicle received medical treatment for minor injuries resulting from the traffic collision. A passenger from the secondary vehicle was uninjured and also cooperated with investigators.
