The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito May 23rd to May 27, 2022. 
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
May 23rd
Domestic Violence – 1700 block of Lexington Ave:
At 3:30 PM, an officer reports the arrest of a 41 year old El Cerrito woman after she and her child’s father got into a mutual shoving match and she caused scratches to the victim’s face, neck, chest and arms. Suspect booked in the county jail.
May 24th
Grand Theft – 6600 block of Barrett Ave:
At 7:29 AM, an officer reports the theft of a catalytic converter from a Toyota Prius between 5/23 at 7:30 PM and 5/24 at 7:00 AM.
Grand Theft – San Pablo Ave / Madison Ave:
At 1:20 PM, an officer reports the theft of a catalytic converter from a Toyota Prius between 5/23 at 6:30 PM and 5/24 at noon.
Domestic Violence / Vandalism – 6500 block of Donal Ave:
At 4:34 PM, officers were dispatched to a disturbance near the above address. A male fled out the back of the complex on to the BART path, and was later located and detained at Del Norte BART. The man had argued with his girlfriend about her cell phone use, and then he punched her causing bleeding above her eyelid. He then threw a rock through the front window of the victim’s apartment and threw a cinder block through the windshield of her car before fleeing on foot. A 27 year old El Cerrito man was arrested and transported to the county jail.
Trespass-10628 San Pablo Ave. (One Stop Laundromat)
At 8:24 pm, an officer responded to the business for a trespass detail. Upon arrival he contacted the victim who stated a 55 year old male was inside his business. The victim advised the male has been warned numerous times to not enter his business and wanted to place him under Citizen’s Arrest. The officer accepted the arrest and issued male a citation in the field.
Theft-10636 San Pablo Ave. (24 Hour Fitness)
At 9:05 pm, an officer was flagged down in regards to a theft. The victim stated an unknown suspect stole the front tire of his bicycle that was parked IFO the business.
Grand Theft-11565 San Pablo Ave. (Walgreens)
At 9:33 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect walked behind the cash register area and started loading cartons of cigarettes and miscellaneous items into a black trash bag. The suspect exited the store and fled towards Del Norte BART.
May 25th
Vandalism / Trespass – 11645 San Pablo Ave (Freeway Motel):
At 1:42 PM, officers were dispatched to an in progress commercial burglary at the Freeway Motel. Jessie Moran (WF, 35, Transient) attempted to remove the sliding window pane in room 16 from the outside. In the process, the window fell to the floor inside and the glass broke. The woman climbed in through the open window and used the room for various purposes, but did not attempt to steal anything. Officers arrived to find her naked in the room and completely manic and incoherent. The 35 year old unsheltered woman was committed per 5150 W&I and transported by ambulance to the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center. The victim requested prosecution for the vandalism and trespass violations.
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 1200 block of Norvelll St: At 2:25 hours, officers were dispatched to a suspicious person detail to the rear of the apartments in the 1100 block of Richmond Street, involving two males seen using power tools to cut the locks off a white Chevy utility truck. As an officer was approaching southbound on Norvell, the white Chevy turned northbound on to Norvell from Schmidt Lane and parked at the east curb. The vehicle was followed by a black Audi SUV (6SMJ851) that stopped beside it. As the officer turned around to get behind the vehicles, the driver of the truck got out and entered the passenger seat of the Audi, and the Audi fled northbound at high speed. A pursuit was not initiated due to the extreme speeds and reckless driving, and the nearby schools that were getting out for the day. The vehicle was last seen northbound on Liberty Street from Donal Avenue. The Audi returned clear out of Moraga. The registered owner of the Chevy was contacted and informed officers the vehicle was an unreported stolen vehicle out of Richmond. The vehicle was recovered and released to the registered owner at the scene.
Grand Theft – 1500 block of S. 56th St: At 1:53 PM, an officer reports the theft of a catalytic converter from one of the company vehicles sometime overnight.
Residential Burglary – 1100 block of Richmond St: At 3:58 hours, an officer reports the victim’s residence was tampered with sometime between 5:00 AM and 3:58 PM today. There was no evidence of forced entry, and previous incidents indicate the victim often does not lock her residence. The suspect did the victim’s laundry, left her four packs of top ramen and a wooden spoon, and showered before taking seven pairs of used women’s shoes valued at $14 that the victim planned to sell on eBay.
Residential Burglary – 900 block of Galvin Dr: At 4:32 PM, an officer reports the victim residence was entered by smashing the rear glass slider. The entire interior of the house was thoroughly ransacked, and at least one handgun was stolen. The entirety of the loss is unknown as of this writing, due to the extent of the ransack, and officers were still on scene at the end of the shift, processing for evidence and helping the resident take inventory. The investigation continues.
May 26th
Vehicle Theft – 11450 San Pablo Ave (Safeway):
At 7:15 AM, an officer reports a multi-colored 2001 Ford box truck was once again stolen from the Safeway lot sometime overnight. This time the owner had an Air Tag installed and was able to locate the vehicle near Central Avenue and Rydin Road in Richmond. The officer took the report, recovered the vehicle, and released it to the registered owner at the scene.
Criminal Threats – 7125 Donal Ave (Korematsu Middle School):
At 12:42 PM, an officer reports a 13 year old Korematsu student who is currently on an allowed leave for independent study, sent Instagram direct messages to two female students of Korematsu threatening to “shoot up the school” on the 27th (Friday). The students immediately reported the messages to the acting principal. After speaking with a family member credible information was received that the student who sent the messages was out of state until at least Saturday.
Assault with a Deadly Weapon – Ashbury Ave / Stockton Ave:
At 2:19 PM, an officer reports unidentified suspects in a grey Toyota Camry (partial plate of 6YPU62) shot at the victim with an airsoft gun as they drove past him. One of the pellets struck the victim on his knee and caused a small abrasion. The suspect vehicle was last seen westbound on Stockton Ave. The driver and passenger were both black males wearing black hoodies.
Court Order Violation – 1200 block of Scott St:
An officer reports the 52 year old male suspect has sent text messages and emails to the protected party numerous times between 11/9/2021 and today.
Trespass-10628 San Pablo Ave. (One Stop Laundromat)
At 11:19 pm, an officer responded to the business for a trespass detail. Upon arrival he contacted the victim who stated a 55 year old male was inside his business. The victim advised the male has been warned numerous times to not enter his business and wanted to place him under Citizen’s Arrest. The officer accepted the arrest and issued male a citation in the field. This is the second incident this week involving the same suspect.
