Bear Activity: Palmer Wasilla Hwy and Seward Meridian Pkwy

The Alaska Wildlife Troopers have received several calls about a large black bear in the area of Palmer Wasilla Highway and Seward Meridian Parkway in Wasilla. While this bear is in an area of the valley not frequented by bears, it is not currently acting aggressively towards humans. As a reminder, much of Alaska is bear country, so be sure that you and your family are bear aware as we transition into summer. Make sure that bears know you are nearby by making plenty of noise when hiking, biking, or recreating in bear country. Never leave attractants such as garbage, bird feeders, or food in the open or unsecured. While encounters with aggressive bears are rare in Alaska, it is recommended while accessing bear country to carry bear spray or a firearm and know how to safely use it to defend yourself.
