On May 31, 2022, a Professional Standards and Narcotics Operations Unit investigation revealed Detentions Deputy Elizabeth Fernandez was at work at the Lerdo Jail Complex while in possession of suspected methamphetamine. She was arrested for entering a jail facility in possession of narcotics and for being under the influence of a narcotic. Fernandez, an employee of the Sheriff's Office for 21 years but was not working in an armed capacity at the time of her arrest. She was booked at the Central Receiving Facility.
