ARRAIGNMENT/BAIL STATUS: Evans was arrested at Amsterdam Police headquarters where he was processed and issued an appearance ticket returnable to Amsterdam City Court at a later date.
INCIDENT NARRATIVE: On May 29th at approximately 11:00 a.m. Amsterdam Police were notified of a larceny of wallet and other property from a vehicle that was parked on Caroline Street in the City of Amsterdam. The responding patrol officer began canvassing the area and speaking with witnesses. During the course of the investigation it was determined one of the credit cards was used at a local business. Video footage of the suspect was obtained using both private and public surveillance sources. The suspect Jason W. Evans was identified from the footage by members of the patrol division who had previously dealt with Evans. On 05/31/22 Evans was at Amsterdam Police Headquarters on an unrelated matter where he was taken into custody by members of the patrol division without incident. Any citizens who had property stolen from them in the area surrounding Caroline Street are encouraged to contact Amsterdam Police as additional charges for the suspect are possible.
While there was probable cause for this arrest, all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
