Supervisor Barber's Coronavirus (COVID-19) Eight Hundred Seventeenth Update (Thursday, June 2, 2022)

Albany County’s COVID-19 Dashboard reported today that there were 127 new positive cases overnight in the County, which raised the County’s COVID-19 cumulative pandemic total to 72,735 positive cases.  The County’s seven-day average of new daily positive cases increased from 108.8 to 110.6 cases.  The number of County residents in the hospital overnight due to COVID-19 symptoms declined by one patient to now 34 patients, with five patients in the ICU.  
 
State DOH reported that the County’s rate for one vaccine dose as of yesterday was 81.5% of the County’s total population and 91.9% of the adult population, and the County’s rate for full-vaccination was 74.5% of the total population, and for boosters was 63.9% of the eligible population.  The State’s rate for one dose was 90.6% for the total population and 95.0% of adults, and the State’s rate for full-vaccination was 77.4% for the total population, and for boosters was 55.5% of the eligible population.
 
The State’s COVID-19 website reported that yesterday’s results for 98,261 tests Statewide were 5,812 or 5.8% positive, with the seven-day average decreasing to 6.7%.  The Capital Region had 4,154 tests of which 352 or 8.6% were positive, with the seven-day average decreasing to 9.1%.  The County had 837 tests of which 98 or 11.8% were positive, with the seven-day average decreasing to 10.1%. 
 
In a press release today, Governor Kathy Hochul reported the State’s positive rate for tests yesterday (5.78%), and the current numbers for COVID-19 hospitalizations (2,409, -50) new hospital admissions (425), ICU patients (219, -19), intubations (80, -5), and 20 deaths.

At a news briefing today, Dr. Ashish Jha, the President’s COVID-19 response coordinator, stated that FDA would likely authorize COVID-19 vaccines for children younger than 5 years of age at its June 15 meeting, with the first doses becoming available as early as June 21. Dr. Jha added that it would take some time for the vaccination program to ramp up but every parent should be able to get an appointment for young children vaccinations within weeks of the initial rollout. 

The Guilderland Performing Arts Center is launching its 43rd season of “Jammin’ at GPAC,” with ten concerts, starting with the Guilderland Town Band on Thursday, June 23 at 7:30pm.   All concerts are free and held at the same location (GPAC) and time (Thursdays at 7:30pm) every week until August 18, with the exception of The Refrigerators on National Night Out on Tuesday, August 2 at 6pm.  Here is a link to the schedule of artists performing at this year’s GPAC season.
