Incident Summary:

On June 2, 2022, at 11:33 am, the Petaluma Police Department Investigations Unit arrested Kory Wayne Messer of Santa Rosa for a warrant stemming from his repeated trips to a home on Webster Street in Petaluma.

On May 18, 2022, at 3:22 pm, officers were called to a residence on Webster Street after Messer walked into the backyard. The reporting party told the officer she had seen him walking around the neighborhood prior to coming onto her property. She slammed a door to get Messer’s attention which caused him to run away. On May 20, 2022, at 12:17 pm, officers were called back to the neighborhood after Messer was discovered on the porch of the house next door from to the original caller. The reporting party spoke to Messer who told her he was looking for his father.

On May 26, 2022, at 8:09 am, officers were again called as the homeowner who was away from the residence, observed Messer on video surveillance walk to the rear of residence and attempt to enter through a rear door. Officers responded, searched the residence, and the surrounding areas but were unable to locate Messer.  At 6:56 pm, officers received a second call from a neighbor who observed the suspect walk to the rear of the same residence and take property. The neighbor confronted the suspect who immediately ran, got into a vehicle, and fled the area.

As Messer’s identity was initially unknown, on May 27, 2022, the department issued a press release asking for the public’s assistance in identifying and locating the suspect. The Petaluma Police Department Investigations Unit received information from multiple sources based on the published photograph that led to Messer.  After corroborating the information, detectives obtained a warrant for two counts of attempted burglary, four counts of prowling, and one count of theft.  Today detectives were able to locate Messer in Santa Rosa and took him into custody without incident.  Messer was transported and booked into the Sonoma County Jail.

We want to thank the public for providing information that resulted in an arrest in this case.  Our continued partnership with the community led to a successful outcome.
