The Parks & Rec Department is hosting another session of the very popular Bird Walk at the Community Gardens. Unlike other sessions, this session will take place on Wednesday mornings from 8am to 9:30 am starting on June 8 through June 29. The program includes a guided walk by a trained bird counter in the Town’s Community Gardens to view birds in various habitats. The tracking involves use of Ebird, an easy to use application designed by Cornell’s Lab of Ornithology to identify birds and report siting locations. Community Gardens is located opposite the Winter Recreation Area on State Route 146. It is easy to register for this session online.
You also might enjoy downloading Merlin, another free app by Cornell University, that identifies birds by sound or photo. It is a fun way to learn about the birds that live in your backyard. It uses a database of hundreds of millions of bird recordings to match, in real-time, recordings on your phone. I thank Jerry Houser, Community Gardens Coordinator, for this wonderful suggestion.
I hope that you are making the best of this near-perfect weather weekend.
Thank you for staying safe and calm.
