As a reminder to the community, be aware of possible scams via telephone.  Scams are attempted in a number of ways, in attempt to obtain money, sometimes by threatening arrest. One recent scam being conducted is the scammer states they need money to be paid, in reference to an offender or someone on a registry or they will be arrested.  The scammer is stating they are with the Vigo County Sheriff's Office.  The Vigo County Sheriff's Office will not call you and demand money or payment for an incident or crime.

What should you do?  Never go buy gift cards or pre-paid credit cards for the caller or "scammer".  If you are unsure if someone calling you is legitimate, hang up and contact the Sheriff's Office or your local police agency.
