FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
With his family by his side, retired Angels Camp Fire Department K9 BlackJack was laid to rest on June 2, 2022.
K9 BlackJack began his fire career with the Angels Camp Fire Department in 2010 and proudly served the citizens of Angels Camp until his retirement in 2017.
With his flashy coat and calm demeanor, K9 BlackJack won the hearts of all who met him. One of K9 BlackJack’s most memorable assignments was working alongside his handler, Deputy Fire Chief Nathan Pry, helping to spread the message of fire safety by showing children how to stop, drop, and roll. He was so loved that in 2011 a Mark Twain Elementary first grader voted him a “Kindness Hero” for helping to spread the word of fire safety.
In addition to working with youth in our community, BlackJack spent many hours at the Angels Camp Fire Department working alongside firefighters at the fire station. He loved to “sing” and would let out a low howl as he rode in the fire engine while responding to emergencies.
K9 BlackJack was rescued from “Save a Spot” in Turlock and was destined to work in public safety. He lived out his retirement years with Deputy Fire Chief Nathan Pry and his family. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Thank you, BlackJack. You served your community well. Rest easy, friend. We got it from here.
