The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
May 31st
Robbery (Estes) – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreen’s):
At 12:15 PM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect selected a garbage bag full of toothbrushes and shaving supplies. As he was collecting the items, the suspect told an employee “You better back up or you’re gonna get dealt with”. When the store manager attempted to call 911, the suspect reached over the counter and hung up the phone. He then left without paying for the $600 worth of merchandise he had concealed in the trash bag.
The suspect was described as a black male, late 20’s, 5’ 6”, 150 pounds, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a purple heart on the back, black pants, and multi-colored shoes. He was last seen on foot toward Church’s Chicken.
Stolen Vehicle - 2600 Block of Monte Vista Ave.
An officer reports an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 2001 blue Mazda Protégé between 5/27 @8:00 PM and 5/30 @7:00 PM.
June 1st
Trespassing – 10628 San Pablo Ave (One Stop Laundromat):
At 12:51 PM, an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 54 year old unsheltered man when he once again set up camp inside the laundromat. Field cited.
Petty Theft-1200 Block of Richmond St.
At 7:37 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole an Amazon package from the victim’s porch.
Burglary -911 Lexington Ave.
At 9:02 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect used force to enter the laundry room of the complex. The suspect then pried several washing machines and removed the coins ($100).
Mail Theft -1300 Block of Liberty St.
At 1:50 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect arrived in a white 4-door sedan and broke into the mailboxes of the apartment complex.
June 2nd
Domestic Battery / Grand Theft / Vandalism – 1174 Richmond St:
At 7:46 hours, an officer reports the victim and her now ex-boyfriend, a 27 year old El Cerrito man, argued about property he thought the victim was withholding. The suspect punched the victim in the face, leaving a visible red mark, took her cell phone, and then slashed her truck tire on his way out.
Battery – 510 El Cerrito Plaza:
At 8:39 AM, an officer reports the victim noticed the suspect and her acquaintance milling around in the gated common area of the complex, and she thought they might be casing. When the victim approached within about 3 feet of the suspect and attempted to take her picture with her cell phone, the suspect snatched the victim’s phone out of her hand and held it behind her back while she counseled the victim on why she should not take the suspect’s picture. The victim grabbed at her phone in an attempt to get it back, and wrestled with the phone while the suspect held on. The suspect eventually tossed the phone on a nearby table, and then continued to tell the victim why she did not want her picture taken. The suspect eventually entered the secured area of the building and left the area. The victim sustained minor bruises on her arm from her attempts to retrieve her phone from the suspect.
The suspect was described as a light skinned black female wearing a black and white patterned shirt and black pants. The male acquaintance left the area as soon as the argument began.
Auto Burglary -9900 Block of San Pablo Ave.
At 8:20 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect smashed the rear driver’s side window of the victim’s vehicle and removed a purse, cash, make-up, and clothing. The burglary occurred in between 3:00 PM and 8:00 PM.
