INCIDENT NARRATIVE: On June 6th, 2022, Amsterdam Police Detectives were notified that the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department had Laurie S. Murray, owner of Mohawk Valley Builders, in custody on a warrant for a scam complaint out of Mayfield NY. Murray allegedly took money from a homeowner to perform construction work, did not perform any work and did not return the money. A homeowner in the City of Amsterdam recently filed a similar complaint where funds were paid to Murray to perform construction work in August of 2021. As of May of 2022 no work had been performed by Murray, the contract was cancelled and no monies were refunded. Murray was transported to the Amsterdam Police Department where she was interviewed by detectives where she made admissions of guilt detailing a pattern of malfeasance in her business dealings.
The City of Amsterdam Police Department would like to make city residents aware of Mohawk Valley Builders activities and if you or someone you know feels they may be a victim of fraud please contact the Amsterdam Police Department at 518-842-1100.
The City of Amsterdam Police Department was assisted by the office of the Montgomery County District Attorney Lorraine Diamond in this investigation, the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
While there was probable cause for this arrest, all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
