Supervisor Barber's Coronavirus (COVID-19) Eight Hundred Twenty-Second Update (Tuesday, June 7, 2022)

In a press release today, County Executive Daniel P. McCoy reported that there were 58 new positive cases overnight in the County, which raised the County’s COVID-19 cumulative pandemic total to 73,196 positive cases.  The County’s seven-day average of new daily positive cases decreased from 99.2 to 97.4 cases.  The number of County residents in the hospital overnight with COVID-19 increased by three patients to now 41 patients, with four patients in the ICU.  The County’s pandemic death toll remained at 563 residents.

The County Executive added:

Albany County’s daily average of new COVID infections as well as the number of cases per 100,000 continue to decline, and the last time I had to report a new COVID-related death was back on May 27.  All of this is good news, and I’m hopeful that our numbers will continue to move in the right direction through the summer months.  With that being said, we should continue to stay vigilant.  We still need more people to get vaccinated and get their booster shots in order to prevent serious illnesses, and everyone should continue to test and stay home if they’re feeling sick to prevent the spread of the virus.

State DOH reported that the County’s rate for one vaccine dose as of yesterday was 81.5% of the County’s total population and 92.0% of the adult population, and the County’s rate for full-vaccination was 74.5% of the total population, and for boosters was 63.8% of the eligible population.  The State’s rate for one dose was 90.7% for the total population and 95.0% of adults, and the State’s rate for full-vaccination was 77.5% for the total population, and for boosters was 55.5% of the eligible population.

The State’s COVID-19 website reported that yesterday’s results for 61,676 tests Statewide were 4,631 or 6.5% positive, with the seven-day average decreasing to 5.9%.  The Capital Region had 1,861 tests of which 143 or 8.2% were positive, with the seven-day average decreasing to 7.8%.  The County had 476 tests of which 50 or 10.0% were positive, with the seven-day average remaining at 8.6%.

In a press release today, Governor Hochul reported the State’s positive rate for tests yesterday (6.90%), and the current numbers for COVID-19 hospitalizations (2,162, +35), new hospital admissions (257), ICU patients (210, -6), intubations (84, 0), and 20 deaths.

After last weekend closure, DOT has announced that there were be three additional weekend closings of part of Carman Road, just over the municipal boundary line in Rotterdam.  The closures are from Wayto Road to Marra Drive in Rotterdam.  The first closure is Friday, June 17 at 8pm until Monday, June 20 at 6am. The second closure is Friday, June 14 at 8pm until Monday, June 27 at 6am. The last closure is Friday, July 8 at 8pm until Monday, July 11.  DOT has provided a map of recommended detour routes that will also be marked by electronic message boards.

These closures are part of the construction of the new roundabout in place of the existing traffic light at Carman Road’s intersection with the I-890/Thruway interchange.  After that work is completed, the contractor will proceed with constructing the new roundabout at the Carman Road and Lydius Street intersection, and installing the new sidewalk on Carman Road to Pine Bush Elementary School. This work will cause similar weekend closures.  We will post any updates online and via Nixle.  You can sign-up for free Nixle updates (text and/or email) here.

Thank you for staying safe and calm.
