Deputies Respond to a Theft Call and Find the Suspect Vehicle Stuck in a Dirt Berm; Three Suspects Taken into Custody

INCIDENT: Possession of Stolen Property, Large Capacity Magazine, Probation Warrant
LOCATION: Amethyst Road / Eucalyptus Street, Victorville
SUSPECT(S): Matthew Huerta, 27-year-old, Male Resident of Apple Valley
Nikola Lopez, 28-year-old, Male Transient of Victorville
David Jackson, 39-year-old, Male Transient of Victorville
VICTIM(S): State of California, and Confidential Victim of Riverside
SUMMARY: On Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at approximately 6:19 a.m., deputies from the Victorville Police Department were dispatched to a theft in progress at a construction site near Amethyst Road and Eucalyptus Street, Victorville. Witnesses reported seeing three suspects stealing construction equipment, and copper wiring from a jobsite. The suspects were attempting to leave in their vehicle, but it was stuck in a dirt berm.
Upon arrival, deputies attempted contact with the suspects, but they fled on foot. Deputies pursued the suspects with the assistance of California Highway Patrol’s airship, Air81. Deputies located all three suspects and detained them without incident. The suspects’ vehicle was found to be reported stolen out of Apple Valley.
The first suspect, Matthew Huerta, a probationer out of Apple Valley, had a high-capacity magazine in his possession. Huerta was arrested and booked for possession of a stolen vehicle, and possession of a large capacity magazine.
The second suspect, Nikolas Lopez, a transient of Victorville, was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle. He has since been released from custody per a court order.
The third suspect, David Jackson, a transient of Victorville, was arrested for a felony warrant for PC3455: Post Release Community Supervision and he remains in custody.
