Suffolk County Police arrested a man for DWI after he drove in the wrong direction in traffic and then stole beer from a Smithtown gas station this morning.
Lance Broussand was driving a 2020 Hyundai Elantra eastbound in the westbound lanes of Veterans Memorial Highway, then stopped at Speedway, located at 522 Smithtown Bypass, where he stole two cases of beer, at approximately 2:30 a.m. Fourth Precinct officers apprehended Broussand in the parking lot after he left the store.
Broussand, 37, of Hauppauge, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Petit Larceny.
He is being held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned this morning at First District Court in Central Islip.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
