Another possible ruse burglary (attempt)

We have bad news and good news. The BAD NEWS is that people attempting to steal your stuff are still out there (everywhere) and looking for an unsuspecting victim. It appears that it happened again this afternoon in the 600 block of Kelley Dr. in the Tanner Trails neighborhood on the Village's far west side.

The GOOD NEWS is that this would-be victim, a man in his 60's, did the right thing and did not allow the suspect entry. The suspect came to the door claiming to be there from a flooring retailer to measure for flooring (which the victims did not order). He was described as a white male, 50-60 years old with gray/white receding hair wearing gray pants and a blue jacket. The homeowner refused the man access and then he left. They then called the retailer, who had no record of anyone being in this area for a service call. The suspect was driving a navy blue Toyota Corolla with Wisconsin plates.

If someone shows up at your house wanting access and you didn't know about it prior, do not let them in. Instead do your homework, as these homeowners did, and call whoever the suspect claims to represent. Keep your doors locked and be aware for someone trying to enter through a different door while you are distracted.

It's possible this suspect was just confused or bad at his job, but still serves as a good reminder to understand the need to protect yourself and not be an easy victim.

And as always, call us at 911 for incidents in progress or just occurred or (630) 897-8705 for incidents that happened in the past.
