Albany County’s COVID-19 Dashboard reported today that there were 86 new positive cases overnight in the County, which raised the County’s COVID-19 cumulative pandemic total to 73,282 positive cases.  The County’s seven-day average of new daily positive cases decreased from 97.4 to 96.8 cases.  The number of County residents in the hospital overnight with COVID-19 decreased by five patients to now 36 patients, with three patients in the ICU.  County DOH reported that there were two deaths of County residents overnight due to COVID-19 and that the County’s pandemic death toll was now at 565 residents.  The County Executive will likely provide more details about these deaths in his next update scheduled for Friday.

State DOH reported that the County’s rate for one vaccine dose as of yesterday was 81.5% of the County’s total population and 92.0% of the adult population, and the County’s rate for full-vaccination was 74.5% of the total population, and for boosters was 63.8% of the eligible population.  The State’s rate for one dose was 90.7% for the total population and 95.0% of adults, and the State’s rate for full-vaccination was 77.5% for the total population, and for boosters was 55.5% of the eligible population.

The State’s COVID-19 website reported that yesterday’s results for 151,166 tests Statewide were 7,933 or 5.8% positive, with the seven-day average decreasing to 5.6%.  The Capital Region had 3,112 tests of which 268 or 9.9% were positive, with the seven-day average decreasing to 7.7%.  The County had 752 tests of which 61 or 9.6% were positive, with the seven-day average decreasing to 8.4%.

In a press release today, Governor Hochul reported the State’s positive rate for tests yesterday (5.77%), and the current numbers for COVID-19 hospitalizations (2,072, -90), new hospital admissions (321), ICU patients (195, -15), intubations (71, -13), and 22 deaths.

With COVID-19 cases rising at the national level, the CDC is urging parents to have their children vaccinated and boosted.  Since May 19, when the CDC expanded boosters for children ages 5 through 11 years, everyone ages 5 years and older is eligible for a booster.  As of June 1, 35.9% of children ages 5 through 11 years have received at least COVID-19 dose, compared to 69.5% of children ages 12 through 17 years.  Since the start of the pandemic, more than 4.8 million children ages 5 through 11 years have been diagnosed by COVID-19, with 15,000 hospitalized and nearly 200 deaths.

Tomorrow morning at 10am, County Executive McCoy is honoring three local veterans at Crossgates at the first floor near the 110 Grill Restaurant.  You can read more about the remarkable service of these veterans here.  Since 2013, the County Executive has hosted 15th similar events that recognized 42 veterans.

Thank you for staying safe and calm.
