Police Department Explains School Safety

South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka
School Safety Update
I want to update our community members on the department’s ongoing efforts to ensure a safe school community.  As word of the shooting in Uvalde, Texas came out, I immediately contacted South Brunswick School District Superintendent Scott Feder about steps that were underway to address safety concerns and allay fears. I immediately had a uniformed police officer placed at every school in the Township over the next few days. Parents, teachers, students, and staff members expressed overwhelming appreciation for the officers being at their schools. We continue to have an increased presence at different schools at different times. We have had uniformed officers on all field days. We continue to review efforts to target harden our schools and evolving security concerns. Lieutenant Tara Jairdullo is in constant contact with school leadership and addresses issues on a daily basis.
Recently, some residents have called because they have seen several officers at different schools. The increased officers are part of our Operation School Safety Plan that involves school layout familiarization. In the coming weeks, you will continue to see teams of officers conducting guided tours of different schools. These tours create a real-time assessment of school safety while increasing officers’ knowledge of the buildings.
Our school safety plan is always evolving and requires constant assessment, training, and coordination. This coordination is with our school district and law enforcement partners. Our greatest partners are our community. If you have a concern or issue, call police dispatch at (732) 329-4646.
