INCIDENT: Two vehicle fatal traffic collision
LOCATION: State Highway 18/ Rimrock Road, Apple Valley, CA
SUMMARY: On Thursday, June 9, 2022 at approximately 2:55 p.m., deputies from the Apple Valley Station, rescue personnel from the Apple Valley Fire Department, and American Medical Response responded to a two vehicle traffic collision. The collision occurred on State Highway 18, east of Rimrock Road, Apple Valley. Deputies determined a black Kia Forte was westbound on State Highway 18, approaching Rimrock Road. A gray Nissan van was eastbound on State Highway 18, east of Rimrock Road. For an unknown reason, the driver of the Kia lost control of the vehicle causing it to cross the center median and into eastbound lanes, crashing head on into the Nissan.
The driver of the Kia sustained fatal injuries. The Kia had a front seat passenger who sustained major injuries and was air lifted to a nearby hospital. The driver of the Nissan sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Investigators from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T) responded and are conducting an investigation. State Highway 18 was closed between the intersections of Rimrock Road and Rancherias Road for approximately four hours while investigators processed the scene for evidence and interviewed witnesses.
