06-10-2022 WATER DEPARTMENT - WATER BACK ON - HYDRANTS BEING FLUSHED

The Waldwick Water Department has completed the repair on E. Prospect Street and the water has been turned back and hydrants flushing is underway.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING HYDRANT FLUSHING?
While hydrants are being flushed, residents may temporarily experience low water pressure or discolored water.

IS THE WATER SAFE TO DRINK DURING HYDRANT FLUSHING?
Yes. Even though the water may be discolored, it is safe to drink. Compounds such as iron, manganese and other sediments may discolor the water but they don't have negative health effects. Most people prefer to wait until the water is clear before they drink it.

CAN I DO LAUNDRY DURING HYDRANT FLUSHING?
Sediment may cause rust-colored stains. Please run your cold water before you do your laundry. If it is discolored, wait for half an hour and try again.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY WATER IS DISCOLORED OR RUSTY?
Running several cold water taps at full force for several minutes will usually flush out sediment or discolored water. You can also run a cold water faucet in the basement. If the water does not run clear after several minutes, wait for half an hour and try again. If the water doesn't run clear after multiple attempts of running your faucet, please call the Borough of Waldwick at 201-652-5300 x240 during normal business hours.  After hours, contact the Waldwick Police Department at 201-652-5700 and Water Department personnel may be dispatched.
