Two search warrants were served in Los Angeles County which resulted in the arrests of David Smith and Adrian Alonso, who were wanted in connection with their sale of fentanyl to the victim which caused their death.

On May 1, 2022, Thousand Oaks patrol deputies were dispatched to the 200 block of Erbes Road reference a subject who was deceased as the result of a fentanyl overdose. PCU detectives handled the investigation and determined that Smith was the suspect who transported the fentanyl to the victim.
