On Saturday, June11^th, 2022, at approximately 11:09 pm, personnel from the Petaluma Police Department and Petaluma Fire Department responded to the area of Kentucky Street and Washington Street for a traffic collision. Upon arrival on scene, officers were alerted to multiple vehicles which had been involved in collision(s) in addition to a pedestrian who was struck by one of the involved vehicles.
 
After speaking with involved parties and reviewing evidence at the scene, it was determined Evan Weise (22) was driving a grey BMW northbound on Kentucky Street. While approaching the crosswalk in the 100 block of Kentucky Street, Weise accelerated at a high rate of speed colliding with a pedestrian who was attempting to cross the street (in the crosswalk). Weise continued northbound on Kentucky Street where he collided with a vehicle at the intersection of Kentucky Street at Washington Street. Weise’s vehicle then veered off the roadway colliding with a pole and a tree. The vehicle Weise collided with fled the scene causing a collision with two other uninvolved vehicles on Washington Street.  
 
Due to Weise having been involved in a serious traffic collision and being concerned for his welfare, witnesses attempted to render aid to Weise. As one of the witnesses approached him, he (Weise) punched the witness. Officers arriving on scene attempted to take Weise into custody to which Weise was uncooperative with officers and kicked an officer. Ultimately, Weise was arrested and placed in a restraint device.
 
As a result of the investigation, Weise was believed to be under the influence of drugs. Due to the severity of the collision, Weise was transported to the hospital. After being medically cleared at the hospital, Weise was booked at the Sonoma County Jail on the following charges: 23153(f)- DUI Causing an Injury, 20001(a) CVC-Hit and Run Causing an Injury, 242 PC-Battery, and 243(b)-Assault on a Police Officer. The involved pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
