Albany County COVID-19 Dashboard reported today that there were 46 new positive cases overnight in the County, which raised the County’s COVID-19 cumulative pandemic total to 73,566 positive cases. The number of County residents in the hospital overnight with COVID-19 increased by one patient to 29 patients, with three patients in the ICU. The County’s pandemic death toll remained at 565 residents.
State DOH reported that the County’s rate for one vaccine dose as of yesterday was 81.6% of the County’s total population and 92.2% of the adult population, and the County’s rate for full-vaccination was 74.6% of the total population, and for boosters was 63.9% of the eligible population. The Governor announced on Friday that the State would no longer provide COVID-19 hospital data on weekends and holidays, and would provide the weekend’s cumulative data on Monday or non-holiday weekday.
While the rate and number of hospitalizations and deaths from COVID-19 are decreasing in our area, the opposite is taking place at the national level. The CDC reported that, over the past week, there was an 8% increase in the seven-day average for hospitalization and an 18.6% increase in COVID-19 deaths. The nation’s pandemic death toll has now reached 1,006,451, a disturbing number for a nation with a population just over 342 million.
