Nothing in this subdivision shall apply to telephone calls or electronic contacts made in good faith.” “Electronic communication device” includes items such as text messages, emails, faxes, etc.

Tips if you are receiving annoying or harassing phone calls:
1. Screen your calls. If you don’t recognize the number, don’t answer it.
2. You have no obligation to stay on the phone, do not engage in conversation.
3. Do not tell a caller where you are or give out personal information such as your name, address, social security number, bank account number.
4. Ask your phone company about privacy options for your mobile/landline phone.
5. Document specific details of annoying/harassing calls if you decide to notify the police. This information may give valuable clues to the caller’s identity and establish a pattern that may help identify the call source or reason.
