The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a
* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...
Central Rutherford County in western North Carolina...
Polk County in western North Carolina...
* Until 330 PM EDT.
* At 244 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 7 miles southwest
of Rutherfordton, moving south at 20 mph.
HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and half dollar size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Minor hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind
damage to trees and power lines. The strongest winds
moving ahead of the rain, so do not wait for the rain to
begin to take shelter.
* Locations impacted include...
Rutherfordton, Columbus, Tryon, Green Hill, Mill Spring, Green
Creek, Lake Adger, Spindale and Lake Lure.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building.
Brief damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines over small
areas. A brief period of large hail is also possible. Seek shelter
inside an interior room.
Large hail and damaging winds and continuous cloud to ground
lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately.
Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can
hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to
minor flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
