Coronavirus (COVID-19) Eight Hundred Thirty-First Update, Thursday, June 16, 2022

Albany County’s COVID-19 Dashboard reported today that there were 47 new positive cases overnight in the County, which raised the County’s COVID-19 cumulative pandemic total to 73,747 positive cases.  The County’s seven-day average of new daily positive cases decreased from 62.2 to 60.4 cases.  The number of County residents in the hospital overnight with COVID-19 decreased by seven to now 24 patients, with two patients in the ICU.  County DOH reported the COVID-19 related death of a County resident that raised the County’s pandemic death toll to 567 residents.

State DOH reported that the County’s rate for one vaccine dose as of yesterday was 81.6% of the County’s total population and 92.2% of the adult population, and the County’s rate for full-vaccination was 74.6% of the total population, and for boosters was 61.8% of the eligible population.  The State’s rate for one dose was 90.8% for the total population and 95.0% of adults, and the State’s rate for full-vaccination was 77.6% for the total population, and for boosters was 54.0% of the eligible population.  The percentages of vaccinated persons for the eligible populations has decreased as the number of persons eligible for vaccinations has increased.

The State’s COVID-19 website reported that yesterday’s results for 103,772 tests Statewide were 5,913 or 5.2% positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 5.5%.  The Capital Region had 3,386 tests of which 177 or 5.3% were positive, with the seven-day average decreasing to 6.8%.  The County had 717 tests of which 37 or 4.9% were positive, with the seven-day average decreasing to 7.1%.

In a press release today, Governor Hochul reported the State’s positive rate for tests yesterday (5.23%), and the current numbers for COVID-19 hospitalizations (1,884, -23), new hospital admissions (324), ICU patients (211, +4), intubations (79, +5), and 8 deaths.

State DOH announced that it is closing its eight mass COVID-19 vaccination sites, including the site operated at Crossgates, by the end of June.  The Crossgates site is closing on June 24 at 6:30pm.  The decision was made because of the widespread availability of vaccine providers, who now administer most vaccinations, high-vaccination rates in the State, and declining rates for positive cases.

Please remember that DOT is closing an important part of Carman Road this weekend for the construction of a new roundabout at its intersection with the I-890/Thruway entrance in Rotterdam.  The closure is from Wayto Road in Guilderland to Marra Drive in Rotterdam, and will take place from Friday, June 17 at 8pm to Monday, June 20 at 6am.  DOT has a map of recommended detour routes and has placed electronic message boards on Carman Road and other locations.

Last year, Congress named “Juneteenth National Independence Day, June 19” as the nation’s 12th federal holiday.  In signing the law, the President recognized the importance of this holiday:

On Juneteenth, we recommit ourselves to the work of equity, equality, and justice. And, we celebrate the centuries of struggle, courage, and hope that have brought us to this time of progress and possibility.  That work has been led throughout our history by abolitionists and educators, civil rights advocates and lawyers, courageous activists and trade unionists, public officials, and everyday Americans who have helped make real the ideals of our founding documents for all.

The Town Board recognized Juneteenth as a local holiday in the Town’s official calendar.  With Juneteenth on Sunday this year, the Town will observe this new holiday by closing Town Hall and other indoor facilities on Monday, June 20.  Please also note that the Transfer Station will be closed for this holiday on Saturday, June 18 and will not reopen until Tuesday, June 21 at 7:30am.

Thank you for staying safe and calm.
