The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito June 6th to June 9, 2022.

 The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

June 6th

Vandalism – 1600 block of Arlington Blvd:
At 6:12 AM, officers were dispatched to a residential alarm at this address.  An officer reports the window beside the front door was broken and partially removed, but no entry was made.
 
Burglary – 10560 San Pablo Ave (Jay Vee Liquors):
At 12:17 PM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect crept into the store and distracted the store clerk by pouring a substance on the floor.  When the clerk noticed the “spill” and went to clean it up, the suspect went behind the counter and stole approximately $500 in coins from the unlocked safe.  The clerk never noticed the suspect while he lurked in the store.  The suspect was later viewed on video as a black male, unknown age, wearing all dark clothing and a dark hat.
 
Shoplift- Lucky 1000 El Cerrito Plaza
At 9:58 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect entered the business and filled two backpacks full of laundry soap ($45). He ignored security’s request to leave the merchandise and fled the business.
 
June 7th
 
Vehicle Burglary – 6500 block of Eureka Ave:
At 1:41 PM, an officer reports an unlocked plumbing truck was entered at 1:10 PM while the employee was on a job, and house and work keys were stolen.
 
Vehicle Theft – 10944 San Pablo Ave:
At 3:03 hours, an officer reports a 1998 Honda Civic was stolen on 5/26 in the early morning.  The victim failed to report the theft until San Pablo PD called him this afternoon to tell him they had located the vehicle in their city.
 
Grand Theft – 11645 San Pablo Ave (Freeway Motel):
At 7:27 AM, an officer reports the victim claims $1200 was taken out of his wallet, which was left in his motel room after he was committed per 5150WI on Sunday night around 10:30 PM by BART PD.
 
Trespass/Possession of Controlled Substance- 600 Block of Kearney St.
At 12:11 AM, officers were dispatched to the location in regards to a trespass detail. Upon arrival officers located three subjects on the property. During the investigation, officers discovered one of the subjects had four outstanding warrants for burglary from a neighboring agency. He was taken into custody for the warrants. The outside agency responded to the ECPD and took custody of the subject. During a search of the second subject he was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine. He was positively identified and cited in the field. The third, subject was identified as a runaway juvenile. He was issued a Juvenile Affidavit and transported back to the group home in Oakland where he had been reported missing from.  This case will be forwarded to the DA’s Office for review.
 
Trespass- One Stop Laundromat, 10628 San Pablo Ave.
At 9:21 PM, an officer accepted the Citizen’s Arrest of 55 year old male after he was found inside the business by the owner. The male had been told numerous times to not enter the business by the owner in the past. The male was cited in the field.
 
June 8th
 
Residential Burglary – 5800 block of Alta Punta Ave:  
At 7:49 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect entered the victim’s garage at 4:00 AM by unknown means and stole four bicycles and a Dewalt circular saw.
 
Battery – 1800 Elm St (Summit K2):
At 1:58 PM, an officer reports a student and parent came to the police department to report two 9th grade students came up behind the victim during lunch and sucker punched her.  Mom said she has reported multiple prior incidents to the school administrators, but they “never do anything”, so she decided to make a police report.
 
Battery-Jack in the Box 5920 Cutting Blvd.
At 11:12 PM, an officer reports two employees got into a verbal altercation over food orders. During the altercation the suspect punched the victim several times. The officer accepted the Citizen’s Arrest. The suspect was cited and released at the scene.
 
June 9th
 
Vandalism – 1600 block of Liberty St:
An officer reports a group of 4 juveniles threw eggs at the victim’s residence approximately 5:55 PM on 6/7, with one of the eggs somehow causing a window to break.  The victim residence was flying a pride flag, and as the juveniles threw the eggs, they yelled homophobic slurs.  The incident is being investigated as a hate crime.
 
Residential Burglary – 1000 block of Arlington Blvd: 
At 11:26 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect broke and opened a crank style window and opened the window shade inside.  The resident was home at the time and may have frightened the suspect off before making complete entry.
 
Check Fraud / False Personation – 11100 San Pablo Ave (Bank of the West):
At 2:31 PM, an officers reports the arrest of a 24 year old Richmond man when he tried to cash a washed check at the bank, and provided an ID card of another to the bank and police.  Released per 849PC due to county jail non-acceptance.
 
Domestic Battery – 1600 block of Liberty St:
At 2:11 PM, an officer took a lobby detail regarding a battery at this address.  The victim reported a domestic violence incident that occurred on Monday, 6/6, with her live in boyfriend.  The victim waited until to today to report the incident and request an Emergency Protective Order.  The suspect had since left the residence.  An EPO was obtained.
