The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for... McDowell County in western North Carolina... Northeastern Buncombe County in western North Carolina... Southern Yancey County in western North Carolina...

* Until 430 PM EDT.

* At 340 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 4 miles south of Burnsville to 15 miles east of Marshall, moving southeast at 20 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and nickel size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect damage to trees and power lines.

* Locations impacted include... Marion, Burnsville, Black Mountain, Old Fort, Mount Mitchell State Park, B.R. Parkway-Craggy To Little Switzerland, Montreat, Nebo, Pleasant Gardens and Woodlawn.

* AFFECTED AREAS: BUNCOMBE, NC ... MCDOWELL, NC ... YANCEY, NC

Instructions:

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Large hail and damaging winds and continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms, and may lead to minor flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
