Coronavirus (COVID-19) Eight Hundred Thirty-Second Update, Friday, June 17, 2022
In a press release today, Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy reported that there were 62 new positive cases overnight in the County, which raised the County’s COVID-19 cumulative pandemic total to 73,809 positive cases. The County’s seven-day average of new daily positive cases decreased from 60.4 to 54.7 cases. The number of County residents in the hospital overnight with COVID-19 remained at 24 patients, with two patients in the ICU. The County Executive stated that the death of County resident since Tuesday’s update was a man in his 50’s and that the County’s pandemic death toll was 567 residents.
The County Executive added:
Sadly, I have to report the latest county resident losing their life to COVID-complications – a man in his 50’s – and my condolences go out to the family and loved ones. The virus can still be dangerous for some, especially the unvaccinated, older residents and those with underlying health conditions.
Having said that, there continues to be room for optimism. The number of residents currently hospitalized with the virus is now back down to where it was on April 22 and average COVID cases per 100,000 is down to levels we haven’t seen since April 4. Additionally, the wastewater surveillance data from the North and South wastewater treatment plants in Albany once again are showing decreasing levels of COVID intensity over the last two weeks, which means we will likely see fewer daily infections going forward.
State DOH reported that the County’s rate for one vaccine dose as of yesterday was 81.6% of the County’s total population and 92.2% of the adult population, and the County’s rate for full-vaccination was 74.6% of the total population, and for boosters was 61.8% of the eligible population. The State’s rate for one dose was 90.9% for the total population and 95.0% of adults, and the State’s rate for full-vaccination was 77.6% for the total population, and for boosters was 54.0% of the eligible population.
The State’s COVID-19 website reported that yesterday’s results for 93,506 tests Statewide were 5,176 or 5.1% positive, with the seven-day average remaining at 5.5%. The Capital Region had 2,752 tests of which 168 or 6.2% were positive, with the seven-day average decreasing to 6.6%. The County had 643 tests of which 53 or 8.7% were positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 7.2%.
In a press release today, Governor Hochul reported the State’s positive rate for tests yesterday (5.12%), and the current numbers for COVID-19 hospitalizations (1,842, -42), new hospital admissions (313), ICU patients (211, 0), intubations (76, -3), and 13 deaths.
For the second consecutive week, CDC’s Community Level map shows that Albany County has a medium level of community spread. At this level, the CDC recommends the wearing of facemasks indoors if you are at a high risk for severe illness. Most of the State, including Schenectady and Saratoga Counties, are at low levels, with the only counties at a high level on Long Island. At the national level, 329 (10.21% ) counties are high, 946 (29.37%) counties are medium, and 1,946 (60.42%) counties are low.
A reminder that, with cool and pleasant weather tomorrow, you can enjoy two outdoor community events. From 10am to 3pm tomorrow, the Guilderland Garden Club is hosting its annual garage sale at the historic Mynderse-Frederick House, located at 451 NY-146 in Guilderland Center. The event includes a bake sale, tours of the Club’s beautiful gardens, and opportunity to chat about gardening with Club members. From 11am to 2pm at DiCaprio Park, the Guilderland Police Department is celebrating its 50th anniversary, with food trucks, bounce house, and other fun activities for all.
I hope that you have a relaxing weekend, and I wish fellow fathers an enjoyable Father’s Day.
Thank you for staying safe and calm.
