Advisory

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Eight Hundred Thirty-Third Update, Saturday, June 18, 2022

Albany County’s COVID-19 Dashboard today reported that there were 94 new positive cases overnight in the County, which raised the County’s COVID-19 cumulative pandemic total to 73,903 positive cases.  The County’s seven-day average of new daily positive cases increased from 54.7 to 59.8 cases.  The number of County residents in the hospital overnight with COVID-19 increased by one to now 25 patients, with two patients in the ICU.  The County’s pandemic death toll remained at 567 residents.

State DOH reported today that the County’s rate for one vaccine dose as of yesterday was 81.6% of the County’s total population and 92.3% of the adult population, and the County’s rate for full-vaccination was 74.6% of the total population, and for boosters was 61.8% of the eligible population.  The State’s rate for one dose was 90.9% for the total population and 95.0% of adults, and the State’s rate for full-vaccination was 77.6% for the total population, and for boosters was 54.0% of the eligible population.

The State’s COVID-19 website reported that yesterday’s results for 93,066 tests Statewide were 5,176 or 5.1% positive, with the seven-day average remaining at 5.5%.  The Capital Region had 2,752 tests of which 168 or 6.2% were positive, with the seven-day average decreasing to 6.6%.  The County had 643 tests of which 53 or 8.7% were positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 7.2%.  The State has stopped providing hospitalization data on weekends and holidays.

CDC’s Director announced this afternoon her approval of emergency use of both Moderna’s two-dose vaccine and Pfizer’s three-dose vaccine for children between 6 months and 5 years of age.  The Moderna dose is a quarter of an adult dose and the Pfizer dose is a tenth. This age group, with about 20 million children, is the last age group (except babies under 6 months) to become eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine.  While only about 32% of children ages 5 to 11 are vaccinated, experts believe that parents of children in this age group might have their children vaccinated when they receive standard immunizations.  The final approval by CDC’s Director is expected today, with the new vaccines available as early as Tuesday.

The Parks & Recreation Department is taking final preparation steps for the June 27 opening of the Town’s 2022 Summer Recreation Program.  The registrations are very strong for the new option this year of one-week camp sessions which provides flexibility for families in scheduling summer vacations or other activities.  Many programs are at capacity or have waiting lists but there are still slots available for many activities during the camp season that runs to Friday, August 5.  Please remember that registration closes, with no exceptions, on Thursday, June 23.  Please also visit Parks & Rec’s Facebook page for up to date information about offerings.  The Tawasentha Park pool opens, weather permitting, next Saturday for Town residents and their non-resident guests.

A reminder that Town Hall and indoor facilities will be closed for the Juneteenth holiday on Monday, and that the Transfer Station will open again at 7:30am on Tuesday, June 21.

I hope that you are having a relaxing and enjoyable weekend.

Thank you for staying safe and calm.
