Coronavirus (COVID-19) Eight Hundred Thirty-Fourth Update Sunday, June 19, 2022 Juneteenth National Independence
Albany County’s COVID-19 Dashboard today reported that there were 46 new positive cases overnight in the County, which raised the County’s COVID-19 cumulative pandemic total to 73,949 positive cases. The County’s seven-day average of new daily positive cases decreased from 59.8 to 55.4 cases. The number of County residents in the hospital overnight with COVID-19 increased by five to now 30 patients, with two patients in the ICU. The County’s pandemic death toll remained at 567 residents.
State DOH reported today that the County’s rate for one vaccine dose as of yesterday was 81.6% of the County’s total population and 92.3% of the adult population, and the County’s rate for full-vaccination was 74.6% of the total population, and for boosters was 61.7% of the eligible population. The State’s rate for one dose was 90.9% for the total population and 95.0% of adults, and the State’s rate for full-vaccination was 77.6% for the total population, and for boosters was 53.9% of the eligible population.
The State’s COVID-19 website reported that yesterday’s results for 100,734 tests Statewide were 4,687 or 4.0% positive, with the seven-day average decreasing to 5.1%. The Capital Region had 2,688 tests of which 115 or 4.9% were positive, with the seven-day average decreasing to 6.4%. The County had 642 tests of which 32 or 5.2% were positive, with the seven-day average decreasing to 6.9%. The State has stopped providing hospitalization data on weekends and holidays.
State DOH’s latest weekly report on breakthrough cases again demonstrates that a full COVID-19 vaccination provides overwhelming protection and keeps vaccinated persons out of the hospital. A breakthrough case occurs when a person tests positive for COVID-19 after being fully-vaccinated (more than 14 days after completing their vaccine series).
As of June 13, State DOH reported 1,571,444 laboratory-confirmed breakthrough cases among fully-vaccinated people in the State or 11.7% of the population of fully-vaccinated people 12-years or older. There have been 55,818 hospitalizations with COVID-19 among fully-vaccinated people in the State, which is just 0.4% of the population of fully-vaccinated people 12-years or older. State DOH’s data also found that fully-vaccinated people had between an 87.3% and 96.2% lower chance of being hospitalized with COVID-19, when compared to unvaccinated people.
The Guilderland Performing Arts Center opens its 43rd season of “Jammin’ at GPAC,” with ten free concerts, starting with the Guilderland Town Band on this Thursday, June 23 at 7:30pm. All concerts take place at GPAC in Tawasentha Park on Thursday evenings at 7:30pm, every week until August 18, except for The Refrigerators on National Night Out on Tuesday, August 2 at 6pm. Here is a link to the schedule of artists performing at this year’s GPAC season.
A final reminder that Town Hall and indoor facilities, and the Transfer Station, are closed tomorrow in recognition of the Juneteenth National Independence Day holiday.
I also wish all fellow fathers a Happy Father’s Day. As you might have guessed, the Western Turnpike Golf Course was fully booked this weekend and, with mostly rain-free weekends, is continuing a banner season.
I hope that you are having a relaxing and enjoyable holiday weekend.
Thank you for staying safe and calm.
