Fatal Motorcycle Collision in Petaluma

Last night at 8:02 PM, Petaluma PD officers were dispatched to a solo motorcycle collision on West Payran Street.  According to witnesses, the driver of the motorcycle was driving eastbound from Magnolia Avenue and crashed near the SMART railroad crossing.  Petaluma FD paramedics attempted life saving treatment, but the driver succumbed to his injuries on the scene.  The Petaluma PD Traffic Team was called out to investigate the collision.   Preliminarily it appears the driver of the motorcycle may have struck the yellow raised concrete median just prior to the railroad crossing, and then was ejected from the motorcycle.  The motorcycle then struck a power pole knocking out power to the railroad crossing.  No other vehicles were involved in the collision and no trains were approaching.   The collision is still under investigation to determine what may have occurred before the collision.  If anyone witnessed the motorcycle before the collision or witnessed the collision, please contact Traffic Officer Nick Camilleri at 707-778-4372.  The identity of the driver will be released after the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Unit makes family notification.

Media inquiries may be directed to Lieutenant Tim Lyons at [email protected] or phone 707-778-4372. PPD Case 22-2539.
