Greenwood Police Department would like to remind residents and businesses that 318-938-5554 is for NON EMERGENCY situations only.  If you have an emergency, you should call 911 and not the police department directly. There are several benefits to calling 911 over calling the PD directly.  Some benefits are:

1. The call taker is not driving to your location, like when you call the PD directly.
2. The 911 call is recorded.
3. The 911 dispatcher can update all officer en route to the call as things progress.
4. Your number, name and address are readily available at 911 and not necessarily easily available by calling the PD.
5. The PD phone may not be answered if the officers are on another call for service. 911 will always be answered.
