Coronavirus (COVID-19) Eight Hundred Thirty-Fifth Update Monday, June 20, 2022

Albany County’s COVID-19 Dashboard today reported that there were 30 new positive cases overnight in the County, which raised the County’s COVID-19 cumulative pandemic total to 73,979 positive cases.  The County’s seven-day average of new daily positive cases decreased from 55.4 to 50.8 cases.  The number of County residents in the hospital overnight with COVID-19 decreased by one to now 29 patients, with two patients in the ICU.  The County’s pandemic death toll remained at 567 residents.

State DOH reported today that the County’s rate for one vaccine dose as of yesterday was 81.6% of the County’s total population and 92.3% of the adult population, and the County’s rate for full-vaccination was 74.6% of the total population, and for boosters was 61.7% of the eligible population.  The State’s rate for one dose was 90.9% for the total population and 95.0% of adults, and the State’s rate for full-vaccination was 77.6% for the total population, and for boosters was 53.8% of the eligible population.

The State’s COVID-19 website reported that yesterday’s results for 50,444 tests Statewide were 3,596 or 6.5% positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 5.2%.  The Capital Region had 1,688 tests of which 92 or 5.4% were positive, with the seven-day average decreasing to 6.3%.  The County had 353 tests of which 23 or 6.8% were positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 7.0%.  The State has stopped providing hospitalization data on weekends and holidays.

In case you missed it, the Highway Department’s new state-of-the-art street sweeper has been active for several weeks sweeping stones, dirt, broken glass. and other debris from Town streets.  It prevents unwanted materials from flowing into storm drains and polluting streams, and causing backups and flooding.  It also helps keep streets safer for pedestrians and bicyclists.

At last count, there are about 168 miles of Town streets, but you can double that distance because each street is swept in both directions.   All Town streets in the Municipal Separate Storm Water Sewer System (“MS4”), which is about one-half of the Town streets, are swept twice a year.  The Highway Department’s goal is to sweep all Town streets twice a year, with a focus on streets in the MS4.  Please keep an eye out for this machine as it works in neighborhoods. You can help by keeping lawn bags and debris off the street to allow for a complete street sweeping, allowing rain water to reach storm water drains.  And please note that the sweeper’s top speed on highways, like Route 20, is only 30 mph.

I hope that you are having a relaxing and enjoyable holiday weekend.
Thank you for staying safe and calm.
