San Leandro Police Officer Competes in National Weightlifting Championship:
Officer Dennis Mally is a homegrown, born and raised San Leandro Police Officer. He is a 16-year veteran of the force and one of our senior police officers. He is currently a Field Training Officer, helping mold our recruits once they graduate from the academy. The impression and leadership Dennis will impress upon them will be forever lasting. Dennis is also well known for his years as a canine officer, and officers of all ranks and tenure often seek him out for guidance and his perspective on things.
Dennis recently began to pick up a hobby he has always been fond of: competition weightlifting. Dennis began to train a few years ago and finally decided to test himself in a national weightlifting competition.
Just last week, Dennis competed in the United States Police and Fire Championships held in San Diego, California. Dennis competed in the powerlifting category, including bench press and deadlift. Dennis placed 2nd in his age group of police and firefighters from across the country. He can bring back his silver medal to the San Leandro Police Department.
In a statement, Dennis said, "I am very proud to have competed on behalf of our department." He added, "I thank all those who have supported me in this endeavor, including my family, friends, coworkers, and the San Leandro Police Officers Association."
As if this accomplishment wasn't enough, Dennis recently received his pilot license, something he has dreamed of since he was a child.
"Dennis embodies a healthy work-life balance, and it is important for him to set an example to our newer officers in what can be a very challenging profession at times," said Lieutenant Matthew Barajas.
