Telephone Threats lead to arrest
On June 19, 2022 at approximately 0430 hours, the Middle Township Police Department was notified of a threatening phone call made to the Wawa convenience store in the Rio Grande section of Middle Township. An unknown subject called Wawa and said they were going to shoot everyone in the store with an AR57. Middle Township Patrol Division responded to the store and immediately began an investigation. As a precaution, the store was closed for several hours and the Middle Township Police Patrol Division remained at the store and increased patrols in the Rio Grande area.
The Middle Township Police Department Major Crimes Unit and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office responded to the scene. As a result of the investigation, Matthew Goldstein, age 18 of Feasterville, Pennsylvania and Joseph Vannauker, age 18 of Levittown, Pennsylvania were arrested in West Wildwood and charged with False Public Alarm, 2C:33-3; a 2nd degree crime, Conspiracy, 2C:5-2A(2); a 2nd degree crime and Terroristic Threats, 2C:12-3a; a 3rd degree crime. It was determined there were no weapons available to the subjects. Goldstein and Vannauker were lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center. The West Wildwood Police Department assisted in the investigation.
All charges are accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until and unless they are proven guilty.
