Controlled Burn TODAY on Campolindo Ridge
Firefighters from the Moraga-Orinda Fire District, along with firefighters from other agencies, will be conducting a controlled burn on the south side of Campolindo ridge (behind the high school) TODAY (June 23rd). The operation will begin at approximately 10:00a and conclude no later than 4:00p. This project is designed to provide training for firefighters and reduce the amount of flammable fuels in the area, increasing safety in our community.
Safety is the number one priority. The project is set up to take advantage of existing weather and fire control lines and will be executed according to a strict “go, no go” checklist. The exercise is being coordinated with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District and Fire Weather Forecasters at the National Weather Service to ensure the size and timing of the burning will minimize smoke impacts to homes and other smoke-sensitive sites in the area.
If burning conditions change, the project will be rescheduled. Residents in the area and those driving nearby may see or smell smoke. Closing exterior doors and windows during the day will help to keep smoke from entering homes. PLEASE DRIVE SLOWLY AND SAFELY IN THE AREA AND WATCH FOR OTHER DRIVERS WHO MAY BE DISTRACTED BY THE ACTIVITY.
