Update in Seabrook shooting: Juvenile shot and killed in commission of burglary; second subject in custody

At approximately 2:30 p.m. Friday, June 24, 2022, Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a report of shots fired with a wounded person at a residence on Vidalia Rd. in Seabrook.

When deputies arrived, they learned a homeowner interrupted a burglary at his Vidalia Rd. residence.

When the homeowner confronted the two male subjects inside his residence, one of two fired a handgun at him.

At least one of the projectiles fired by the subject wounded the other subject involved in the burglary.

The homeowner ran out of his residence when the shots were fired.

Inside the Vidalia Rd. residence, deputies found the wounded subject — a juvenile from Burton — unresponsive. The second subject was no longer at the scene.

Beaufort County Emergency Medical Services responded to evaluate the juvenile subject and determined he was dead at the scene.

The second subject — who fired the shots and left the scene — was identified as 17-year-old David Singleton.

Deputies responded a short distance away from the Vidalia Rd. scene to locate Singleton at his Porches Hill Rd., Seabrook residence.

It was confirmed that Singleton was inside his residence, but he did not immediately surrender to deputies.

Deputies established a perimeter around Singleton's residence and, after a little over an hour, Singleton came out.

Singleton was arrested for Burglary 1st Degree in the Vidalia Rd. incident.

Following his arrest, Singleton was transported to the Beaufort County Detention Center and incarcerated.

Charges for Singleton in the juvenile subject's shooting death are being evaluated.

Anyone who has information on the Seabrook incident is encouraged to contact Sheriff's Office Dispatch at 843-524-2777 or Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry at 843-554-1111, if wishing to remain anonymous and for possible reward.

The Beaufort County Coroner's Office will schedule a forensic autopsy to be conducted at the Medical University of South Carolina to confirm the juvenile subject's cause of death.
