Delivery Driver Arrested for Attempted Sexual Assault After Breaking into Residence

On Friday, June 24, 2022, at approximately 11:31 a.m., Turlock Police officers were called to the 2300 block of Lander Avenue responding to an attempted attack by an Amazon delivery driver on a female resident near the front door of her home.

Officers arrived on scene and located the delivery driver, who was being physically restrained by two men. The delivery driver was immediately detained in handcuffs and was identified as 22-year-old Modesto resident, Ryan Lee Crisp.

Through the course of the investigation, officers learned that Crisp had walked into the open front door of the residence, uninvited, and made a statement to the female victim about her attractive appearance. The frightened female victim screamed for help from her husband and together they were able to push Crisp out of their residence, shutting the front door. The female victim locked herself in the bathroom and called 9.1.1. to report what was occurring, while the husband searched for Crisp.

The husband’s co-worker, who was waiting outside the home, observed Crisp jumping a fence into the backyard of the residence and running back toward the house. The husband and his co-worker discovered that Crisp had again gained access to the home by breaking a bedroom window. The two were eventually able to locate Crisp inside the home and detain him until the arrival of officers.

Based on the investigation, witness statements and the interview of Crisp, he was arrested. Crisp sustained minor cuts during this incident but declined medical treatment. Crisp was transported and booked at the Stanislaus County Jail on charges of attempt rape, burglary and vandalism, all felonies.

It is known that Crisp arrived at the home in an Amazon delivery vehicle and was dressed in an Amazon uniform. Crisp is employed by Soon Express, a third-party delivery company that is partnered with Amazon. Evidence at the scene indicated that Crisp was not at the residence to deliver any packages for that address.

While the Turlock Police Department does not believe this incident should directly reflect on any of the delivery companies operating in the local area, all residents should be cautious when receiving packages from unknown delivery personnel. The Turlock Police Department urges anyone who experiences or witnesses any suspicious behavior to report it to your local authorities.

While the Turlock Police Department believes this matter is an isolated incident, Detectives are working to confirm this is the case.
