Coronavirus (COVID-19) Eight Hundred Fortieth Update Saturday, June 25, 2022
Albany County’s COVID-19 Dashboard reported that there were 70 new positive cases overnight in the County, which raised the County’s COVID-19 cumulative pandemic total to 74,257 positive cases. The County’s seven-day average of new daily positive cases increased from 54.0 to 56.2 cases. The number of County residents in the hospital overnight with COVID-19 remained at 26 patients, with five patients in the ICU.
As noted in yesterday’s update, the State has stopped providing daily vaccination data and will only provide this information on Fridays to align with CDC's updated schedule on vaccinations. Here is a link to the State’s data released yesterday.
The State’s COVID-19 website reported that yesterday’s results for 112,074 tests Statewide were 5,752 or 4.6% positive, with the seven-day average remaining at 4.7%. The Capital Region had 2,669 tests of which 182 or 7.4% were positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 6.5%. The County had 577 tests of which 58 or 10.3% were positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 7.3%.
Last night, Governor Kathy Hochul issued a proclamation to convene an extraordinary session of the New York State Legislature starting on Thursday, June 30 to consider the Governor’s legislation to address statutory changes regarding firearm safety in response to the United States Supreme Court’s decision in New York State Rifle & Pistol Assn, Inc. v. Bruen.
If you are looking for something interesting this summer, the Albany Pine Bush Preserve has several upcoming offerings for families and children. The Preserve is hosting Pine Bush Pups: A Perfect Match - Karner Blue Butterflies and Wild Blue Lupine where children can learn about the close relationship between the Karner blue butterflies and blue lupine flowers and enjoy a short walk. You can register for an outing on Tuesday, July 5 at 10am or Wednesday, July 6 at 10am. There are other interesting programs for children throughout the summer.
The Friends of the Pine Bush is offering a virtual discussion about Finding the Mother Tree: Discovering the Wisdom of the Forest, by Suzanne Simard. The book by the world's leading forest ecologist is a New York Times bestseller. The online Zoom event is on Thursday, July 20 at 7pm, with no reservation required.
