Coronavirus (COVID-19) Eight Hundred Forty-First Update Sunday, June 26, 2022

Albany County’s COVID-19 Dashboard reported that there were 60 new positive cases overnight in the County, which raised the County’s COVID-19 cumulative pandemic total to 74,317 positive cases.  The County’s seven-day average of new daily positive cases increased from 56.2 to 57.4 cases.  The number of County residents in the hospital overnight with COVID-19 remained at 26 patients, with five patients in the ICU.  The County’s cumulative pandemic death toll remained at 569.

As noted in yesterday’s update, the State has stopped providing daily vaccination data and will only provide this information on Fridays to align with CDC's updated schedule on vaccinations.   Here is a link to the State’s data released yesterday.

The State’s COVID-19 website reported that yesterday’s results for 112,074 tests Statewide were 5,752 or 4.6% positive, with the seven-day average remaining at 4.7%.  The Capital Region had 2,669 tests of which 182 or 7.4% were positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 6.5%.  The County had 577 tests of which 58 or 10.3% were positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 7.3%.

The State’s data on breakthrough cases continues to demonstrate the overwhelming success of vaccinations.  As of  June 20, State DOH is aware of 1,594,695 laboratory-confirmed breakthrough cases of COVID-19 among fully-vaccinated people in the State, which is about 11.9% of the population of fully-vaccinated people 12-years of age or older.  There have been 56,868 COVID-10 hospitalizations of fully-vaccinated people which is about 0.4% of the population of fully-vaccinated people 12-years or older.

With COVID-19 numbers continuing to trend in a good direction, and the Governor and County Executive no longer providing daily updates, I will be ending these consecutive daily updates on Thursday, and will switch to a weekly emailed newsletter that will provide COVID information, upcoming events in Town, and other items of community interest.  Over the past 28 months, I have learned that sharing news about local happenings at the end of each update has been very popular, and is something that will be continued.

I hope that you had a relaxing and enjoyable weekend.

Thank you for staying safe and calm.
