IMPORTANT NOTICE – Plainfield Township Consumer Fireworks Regulations – Independence Day (July 4th) Holiday
Dear Plainfield Township Residents:
With the Independence Day (July 4th) holiday only a few days away, it is necessary to insure that Plainfield Township residents are aware of the current regulations pertaining to the using and igniting of consumer fireworks within the boundaries of the municipality.Ordinance No. 410, which was adopted on March 9, 2022 by the Plainfield Township Board of Supervisors, establishes the following restrictions:
1. Using, firing off, igniting or dispensing any consumer fireworks from public property, which includes any local/state/federal governmental buildings, structures, properties or uses, (including but not limited to buildings, roads, bridges, culverts, sidewalks, parking lots, driveways, access drives, parks, trails, and trailheads) is prohibited.
2. Permitted Days/Times. The use of consumer fireworks within Plainfield Township is restricted to the following designated holidays:
· New Year's Eve- 6:00 PM EST to 12:30 AM EST
· New Year's Day- 6:00 PM EST to 10:00 PM EST
· Memorial Day- 6:00 PM EST to 10:00 PM EST
· Independence Day (July 4th)- 6:00 PM EST to 10:00 PM EST
· Labor Day- 6:00 PM EST to 10:00 PM EST
In other words, consumer fireworks can only be used or ignited on the day of the holiday itself and within the times specified above.
Example: For the upcoming Monday, Independence Day (July 4th) holiday, consumer fireworks may only be discharged only between the hours of 6:00 PM EST to 10:00 PM EST on the day of the holiday itself (not the Saturday or Sunday preceding the holiday).
3. In addition to the above local restrictions, the current state regulations also apply. They are listed as follows:
· Consumer fireworks cannot be ignited or discharged on a public or private property without express permission of the property owner.
· Consumer fireworks cannot be discharged from or within a motor vehicle or building.
· Consumer fireworks cannot be discharged toward a motor vehicle or building.
· Consumer fireworks cannot be discharged within 150 feet of an occupied structure, whether or not a person is actually present.
· Consumer fireworks cannot be discharged while the person is under the influence of alcohol, a controlled substance, or another drug.
