San Leandro Police: 4th of July Announcement

The San Leandro Police Department wants your holiday to be safe as well as fun. The San Leandro Police Department would like to provide the following information to be aware of while planning your holiday celebration.

In the City of San Leandro, all fireworks, including Safe and Sane fireworks, are illegal. It is illegal to possess, store, offer for sale, expose for sale, sell at retail, use, or explode any fireworks, including “safe and sane” fireworks. All-State and local laws related to fireworks will be enforced. The intent of these laws is to prevent injury, maintain order in our neighborhoods and prevent fire or damage to structures and/or vegetation. Police Department personnel will treat this as a zero-tolerance issue.

 3-11-105 PROHIBITIONS.

(a) The manufacture of fireworks or safe and sane fireworks or safe and sane and/or regulated fireworks is prohibited within the City of San Leandro.

(b) It is unlawful for any person to sell, offer for sale, solicit the sale of, possess, purchase, use, ignite, discharge, explode, or allow the use on their property or property under their control any fireworks or safe and sane and/or regulated fireworks within the City of San Leandro except as provided in this Chapter.

The Police Department will have patrols specifically utilized to enforce the firework safety laws and protect the City, including our parks. Appropriate action will be taken when dealing with violators, including confiscation of all fireworks.

The San Leandro Marina will be open to everyone but will close at 6 pm on July 4th.  Access to the El Torito and Horatio’s restaurants and Marina Inn Hotel will be accessible to their customers.

You may report fireworks to the San Leandro Police Department Communications Center at 510-577-2740.  We strongly encourage that you attempt to identify the precise location of the fireworks so our officers can provide an adequate and effective response.  You can also remain anonymous by texting the letters “TipSLPolice” and tip information to 888777 to report firework activity.
