Albany County’s COVID-19 Dashboard reported that there were 68 new positive cases overnight in the County, which raised the County’s COVID-19 cumulative pandemic total to 74,420 positive cases.  The County’s seven-day average of new daily positive cases increased from 56.8 to 60.2 cases.  The number of County residents in the hospital overnight with COVID-19 increased by one to now 27 patients, with five patients in the ICU.  The County’s cumulative pandemic death toll remained at 569.

In a press release today, Governor Hochul reported the State’s positive rate for tests yesterday (7.58%), and the current numbers for COVID-19 hospitalizations (2,003, +171), new hospital admissions (826), ICU patients (176, -13), intubations (72, +2), and 37 deaths.  The Governor also signed legislation that continued legal provisions to allow public and private employees to receive paid time off for COVID-19 vaccinations.

The FDA’s outside expert panel voted today to recommend approval of revised COVID-19 booster vaccines for use in the fall in anticipation of resurgent COVID this winter.  The panel favored a combination of the existing vaccine and two Omicron subvariants,  known as BA.4 and BA.5, which the CDC estimates are the majority of new positive cases.

McCoy announced that, as part of the Albany County Traffic Safety Program, there will a free child safety checkup event on Thursday, June 30 from Noon to 3pm at the parking lot near the Homewood Suites & Tru by Hilton Hotel.  Over the 20 years of the program, the checkup has found hundreds of improperly installed car seats or sates that were recalled, damages or inappropriate for child safety.

The American Red Cross is hosting a blood drive at Town Hall on Friday, July 15 from Noon to 6pm.   It is easy to reserve an appointment online and entering the sponsor code: “guilderlandtown”.  The Red Cross is in urgent need for Type O negative donors that help ensure that this universal blood type is available this summer.
