The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito June 14th to June 16, 2022.
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
June 14th
Identity Theft – 2000 block of Tamalpais Ave:
At 12:16 PM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect used the victim’s information to make multiple withdrawals totaling over $15,000 from the victim’s Chase Bank account, with all transactions taking place in a branch in San Francisco. San Francisco Police referred the victim to El Cerrito PD for the report. The officer took an identity theft report for the victim, then referred the victim back to San Francisco PD for the theft that was committed in their city.
Possess Burglary Tools / Probation Violation – 5700 block of El Dorado St:
At 3:21 PM, an officer reports the arrest of a 36 year old Richmond man for possessing a shaved key, and for violation of his probation by possessing said key. While the officer was investigating a vandalism report, the probationer was detained as he started to put a replacement tire on a minivan which the vandalism victim claimed was his. The probationer claimed he bought the van from another party and declined to provide that person’s information. Neither party could show any evidence of ownership of the vehicle, which was currently registered to a female party in Kansas. The man was field cited for possessing burglary tools and for the probation violation, and was released per California law.
Stolen Vehicle- 1200 block of Liberty St.
An officer reports an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 2018 white Yamaha Xmax motorcycle. The theft occurred in between 6/13@8:00 PM and 6/14@ 6 PM.
Grand Theft- 7022 Stockton Ave. (7-Eleven)
At 7:19 PM, an officer reports two unknown suspects stole several boxes containing cartons of cigarettes from the back of the delivery truck as the driver was unloading freight. The value of the cigarettes was valued over $7800.
Residential Burglary- 6500 block of Donal Ave.
An officer reports an unknown suspect entered the victim’s apartment via an unsecured window. The suspect stole electronics and hygiene products. The burglary occurred in between 6/14@1030 AM and 6/15@ 1:00 AM.
Tampering with a Vehicle- 10000 block of San Pablo Ave.
At 5:11 AM, an officer reports two unknown suspects arrived in a green Chevy Suburban and attempted to remove the catalytic converter from the victim’s dump truck. The victim confronted the suspects and they fled northbound. No property loss was reported.
June 15th
Vandalism / Petty Theft – 5700 block of Jordan Ave:
At 6:37 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect punched a hole in the victim’s gas tank sometime overnight and stole some of the gas, before leaving the rest to run out into the street. The El Cerrito Fire Department responded for the fuel spill.
Vandalism / Petty Theft – 5900 block of Jordan Ave:
At 8:10 AM, an officer reports another gas tank hole punch vandalism / theft similar to the above case.
Vandalism / Petty Theft – 4050 El Cerrito Plaza (European Wax Center):
At 8:58 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect damaged a lock box on the front door of the business and stole the door and cash box keys that were kept inside. The suspect did not enter the business.
Shoplift – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross):
At 9:32 AM, an officer reports two unidentified suspects entered Ross and stole merchandise. The suspects were described as a black male and a black female, both in their 30’s and both wearing all black. Last seen on foot toward the BART path.
Shoplift – 3160 Carlson Blvd (76 Station):
At 10:06 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect stole 7-8 packs of cigarettes worth $100. The suspect was described as a white male, 45 years, 6’1”, wearing all black clothing. Last seen northbound on Carlson Boulevard on foot.
Shoplift – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross):
At 2:21 PM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect stole merchandise and fled in a silver BMW (8LAP275) occupied by two other subjects. The suspect was described as a white male, 30’s, wearing a red jacket and blue jeans.
June 16th
Grand Theft – 11450 San Pablo Ave (Safeway):
An officer reports the catalytic converter was stolen from a Honda Accord in the Safeway lot between 6:00 AM - 10:00 AM this morning.
Petty Theft – 520 Lexington Ave: At 12:36 PM, an officer reports the victim’s unlocked vehicle was entered and ransacked, and a bottle of Oxycodone was taken along with other small property items. Occurred sometime overnight.
Shoplift- 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross)
At 8:07 PM, Ofc. Elliott reports an unknown suspect exited the business with a cart full of merchandise. The suspect was last seen heading towards El Cerrito Plaza BART.
