ROHNERT PARK - On June 28, 2022, at approximately 1:00 PM, the Rohnert Park DPS Communications Center received a single 911 call reporting a possible structure fire on the 500 block of Lassen Court. The caller reported her neighbors fire alarm was sounding and she was smelling something burning in the single-family residence.
The first RPDPS personnel arrived in three minutes to find flames coming from inside the kitchen of the home to the rear of the structure. Fire personnel immediately confirmed that all of the occupants were out of the home and quickly began attacking the fire. Firefighters from Rohnert Park DPS, Rancho Adobe, and Sonoma County Fire assisted in the suppression efforts. Fire personnel had the fire fully extinguished in approximately 20 minutes and were able to keep the fire from spreading from the kitchen.
The damage caused by the fire is estimated to be approximately $80,000 with personnel saving approximately $700,000 in property. The fire is still under investigation but preliminary results indicate this incident was accidental.
When there is a fire, smoke spreads fast. Working smoke detectors give you early warning so you can get outside quickly. Had there not been a working smoke detector alerting the neighbor, Rohnert Park DPS is confident the damage to this residence would have been significantly worse. Remember to replace all smoke detectors according to the manufacturers recommendation and to change the batteries at least once a year.
